Lesson 4/10 out of Languages on a Plate’s beginner module: All About Me, which is centred around teaching the basics for Spanish beginners (perfect for Year 7).
This lesson introduces students to numbers 21-31, and months of the year in Spanish, so they are capable of saying when their birthday is. The lesson builds on the knowledge from the first three lessons in the module, which taught them how to say and spell their name, answer how they are and say how old they are.
Learning intention: to express when your birthday is in Spanish
Learning outcomes:
- Remeber the numbers 1-20 and learn the numbers 21-31
- Learn the vocabulary for the months of the year
- Write a sentence saying when your birthday is
Lesson includes:

- Starter - match the names with the personal pronouns (e.g. María y yo = nosotros)
- Objectives
- Game of popcorn tennis (teacher-led), class revise their knowledge of the numbers 1 - 20)
- Vocabulary - introduction to numbers 21-31
- Reading - correct the mistakes in the sums (develop numeracy skills at the same time as building up the vocabulary for numbers)

- Game - money-maker (pupils translate the words on the board and behind each word is an amount of money)

- Reading - comprehension dialogues of when people's birthdays are to introduce the set phrase "mi cumpleaños es el…"
- Vocabulary - match up the numerical dates with the word-form dates
- Listening - listen for people's name, age and birthday
- Translation - translate people's birthdays
- YouTube video to reinforce phonics and vocabulary - search for new "above and beyond" vocabulary
- Plenary - write when your birthday is
